[Media Advisory] Event opportunity: Red Cross Youth International Meeting “Mt. Fuji 2012”
Red Cross Youth International Meeting “Mt. Fuji 2012” is a four-day event in which young people learn about protection of human dignity through a workshop that is facilitated by the staff of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
This year, 44 youth red cross members aged between 13-22 from 22 countries in the Asia Pacific region will be gathering with 100 Japanese Red Cross youth members in the town of Gotenba, Shizuoka prefecture. Participants will discuss challenges that young people in their region face such as disasters, conflicts, poverty, and healthcare and education issues. The meeting also aims to foster in participants an awareness of the necessity of humanitarian norms, the protection of the Geneva Conventions, the role of the Red Cross Red Crescent and other humanitarian organizations, and an interest and responsible involvement in local and international events.
Part of the workshop will be open to media, who will be able to interview the participants and the facilitator and film the proceedings.
